Stop the Reckless Spending

Forsyth County is a great place to live and raise a family.  But the quality of life we all enjoy will soon end if we continue down the path of reckless spending.

In 2008, the Jim Harrell voted to spend $7.2 million for land to build a jail that had not been approved by the voters.  Two years later, the land is vacant, it produces no tax revenue and is worth less today than when we bought it.

Now, in the midst of one of the worst recessions in decades, Jim Harrell wants to spend $12 million to buy a public golf course with a potential 99 year lease offered by the seller for an estimated $3 million ultimately costing the taxpayers $9 million.  If Jim Harrell were as reluctant to reach into the taxpayers' wallet as he is his own, Forsyth County would be a lot better off.

As your county commissioner, I will not vote for a single tax increase until the Board of Commissioners kicks this habit of reckless spending.
